Specialist Subjects
Auslan
Skipton Primary School offers an Auslan (Australian Sign Language) program for one hour per week to all students in all year levels.
In Grades Prep, 1 and 2, students learn how to sign their own names and how to sign simple texts together.
In Grades 3 and 4, students begin practicing the alphabet and beginning phrases.
As the year levels progress, students practice songs, more complex phrases, numbers and other aspects of sign language.
Digital Technologies
Digital Technologies is now a stand-alone subject, taught for one hour per week in one semester by Georgie Green.
The students participate in a range of hands-on and theoretical tasks to increase their skills and capacity in the ever-evolving world of digital technology.
Library
Skipton Primary School has hosted the Mobile Area Resource Van since 1978. Each week, the van travels to five other schools where students are able to borrow from books, located in the big yellow van.
Skipton Primary currently partners with Rokewood, Lismore, Linton, Invermay and Cape Clear primary schools.
Sustainability
The school operates a Sustainability program, which runs one hour per week for a whole semester. This program provides real and rich learning opportunities, such as the tree-planting at Stewart Park and participating in Clean Up Australia Day projects in the town. Past projects have included the creation of ‘bug hotels’, frog bogs and the continued tending of the ever-expanding vegie garden.
The Arts
Skipton Primary offers an Arts program to all students for one hour per week, every week of the school year. The program has a number of focus areas, including visual arts, textiles/fabrics and design.
